ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM

The NCLUSD Adult Education Program offers FREE courses  in:

  • ESL

  • High School Equivalency (HSE)

  • High School Diploma

  • Microsoft Office Certification

The ESL and HSE Programs are offered through our partnership with LearningQuest Stanislaus Literacy Centers.

The HSE Program prepares adult students for the five HiSET exams (math, science, social studies, reading, writing) required to obtain the High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma, commonly known as GED.  Classes are in session all year-round and orientations are held monthly.

In the ESL Program, adults will work to improve their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through activities and tailored lessons for each level. Classes will introduce conversational English, target vocabulary development, and basic reading and writing. These classes focus on helping individuals develop those skills to gain employment, progress in their education, improve digital literacy, help their children in school, or pursue other life opportunities.

In the Microsoft Office Certification class, students become proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point.    Instruction includes creating a document, how to change the style of the document, like font size, color, alignment, designing a worksheet,  using mathematical operations, designing a dynamic  presentation with animation, effects, transitions, and inserting pictures and videos.  The  Microsoft Office Certification class is held on the Orestimba campus.

The Adult Ed High School Diploma is a self-paced, online program using the Edgenuity Virtual Platform.  Students must be self-motivated to learn independently, as there is no  classroom instruction.  The program  requires completion of 180 credits.  Previously earned credits will be verified by official transcripts from the school most recently attended.
